The Great Debate: No Content vs Low Content Books

In the world of Amazon KDP, there are two camps. And if you pick the wrong one in 2026, you are guaranteed to fail.

The debate is No Content vs Low Content Books. Most beginners don’t even know the difference. They think a “Journal” is the same as a “Planner.” It isn’t.

One is a saturated wasteland. The other is a thriving business model. In this guide, I’m going to explain exactly why you need to stop publishing “No Content” immediately.

What are “No Content” Books? (The Trap)

Definition: A book with zero internal content.

  • Lined Notebooks.
  • Blank Sketchbooks.
  • Graph Paper.

Why They Are Dead: In 2018, you could upload 100 lined notebooks with cool covers and make $1,000/month. Those days are gone.

  • Competition: There are over 50 million lined notebooks on Amazon.
  • Value: Why would a customer buy your $6 notebook when they can buy a generic one at Walmart for $0.99?
  • Amazon’s Algorithm: Amazon has started hiding these books from search results because they “clutter” the store.

If you are uploading “No Content” books today, you are wasting your time. Period.

What are “Low Content” Books? (The Opportunity)

Definition: A book with “Structured” content that guides the user.

  • Activity Books: Sudoku, Mazes, Word Search.
  • Log Books: Mileage Logs, Baby Trackers, Scuba Logs.
  • Planners: Wedding Planners, Teacher Agendas.
  • Guest Books: Airbnb Sign-in Books.

Why They Make Money:

  • Value: You are solving a specific problem. A “Diabetes Log Book” solves a health problem. A “Wedding Planner” solves a stress problem.
  • Price: People will happily pay $7.99 – $12.99 for a structured book.
  • Competition: Much lower. There are millions of notebooks, but only a few thousand “Specific” log books.

The “Consumable” Factor

The biggest difference in No Content vs Low Content Books is how they are used. A blank notebook takes forever to fill up. A puzzle book is destroyed as it is used.

Once a user finishes a Sudoku book, they need another one immediately. This creates Recurring Revenue. You are selling a consumable product, like toothpaste or coffee.

The Pivot: How to Switch Strategies

If you have a hard drive full of “No Content” covers, don’t delete them. Upgrade them.

Take that floral cover you made for a “Lined Notebook.”

  • Change the Title to: “Garden Planning Log Book.”
  • Create a “Garden Tracker” interior (using automation software).
  • Re-upload it as a High-Value Low Content book.

You just turned a $0 asset into a potential $100/month asset.

Need help creating “Low Content” interiors? You can’t draw them by hand. I use a tool that has pre-made templates for Log Books, Planners, and Puzzles. 👉 See the Automation Strategy Here
